Installing Pastel Partner 11 to Windows Home Server 2011

I recently setup a home server for my sister-in-laws small accounting business, that she runs from home.

Please let me know if anything is unclear, I put this together in a rush and it may not be crystal clear.

Pastel can be endlessly frustrating to install and configure on a network, so I thought I’d share how, especially so that the next time I have to do it, I have a roadmap.

You need to have the same version of the Pervasive engine installed on all PC’s connecting to your server. In this case I’d previsously setup the Pastel to run off one of the PC’s as a server and had simultaneously installed PErvasive 10.13.

So I installed Pervasive Server 64bit v10.13 to the server, then installed Pastel Xpress 11 and finally Pastel Partner 11, I registered both online with no issues.

I shared the c:\xpress11 folder as well as the c:\pastel11 folder’s on the server so that I could access the registration file on the networked PC’s.

Alternate Storage Folder

I setup the clients data in another directory on the D:\ drive, each in their respective folders D:\Pastel\Pastel Partner 11 & D:\Pastel\Pastel Xpress 11, I shared the D:\Pastel folder

I have 2 PC’s connected at the moment, both already had Pastel Xpress and Partner installed. 1 is running Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 and the other Windows XP Professional SP3. I mapped the network folders to X:\ for Xpress11, P:\ for Pastel11 and Z:\ for the data folder.

Right-click the shortcut on your desktop and make sure the start in is configured for where the data resides. For Pastel Partner 11 it is Z:\Pastel Partner 11 and for Xpress 11 it is Z:\Pastel Xpress 11

Then open Xpress first and click “Help”, “Register Your Package”, select “Workstation Registration” and point to the X:\Custom\Registration folder.

Now Partner, click “Help”, “Register Your Package”, select “Workstation Registration” and point to the P:\Custom\Registration folder.

With a little luck you should now be setup to get on with some work.
